Cherries Will Bloom. White Earthenware Clay. 2017. This piece was one of my personal favorites to make. When I started to build this I decided that I was going to carve away lines into the piece to give it depth. After I got the lines carved, they resembled vines to me. I went with the idea of vines and something that would grow on them. When I added some round pieces of clay onto the rim of the piece, they looked like some sort of berry. I then added a decorative handle and thin lines going down the side to add more of a vine effect. When I finished placing the dots around the piece in no specific order, I decided that when it was fired I would be glazing the vines green and the dots red to look like cherries. I decided on the title because the  cherries did not appear fully bloomed but as if they were still awaiting to do so.

Chaske Nizhoni. Pen and Watercolor. 2017. For this piece I wanted to challenge myself by using a pen and watercolor. I created many small dots with the pen to make the overall shape and details of this piece.I planned on doing black and white for this piece but decided to add color with the watercolor. I chose to do an Indian because of the beauty of their headdresses, culture and lifestyle.

Living Lights.  Acrylic Paint. 2017. In this painting, I wanted to depict a scene from my childhood. Going out and catching fireflies with my brothers was the usual summer night for us. I chose to do this painting because I wanted to take the viewer back to their childhood. I want them to remember the fun times they would have as kids. The sense of being care free, the laughter, the bumps and bruises, and the all around happiness. I wanted to use dark greens and blues to depict the perfect summer night. I would layer the paint on to give the painting life and dimension. I wanted the viewer to be able to walk around the painting and see something new that would jump out at them. I also layered the paint to make the candle and flame. This gives the painting more of a warm feel with the dark blues and greens for the background. I want this painting to take the viewers back to a happy place in time.

Bird Bear. Buff Clay with Acrylic Paint. 2017. When making this piece, we had to use two different animals and their features to make a whole new animal. I chose to use the body of a bear, wings of a bird, feet and beak of a bird, and I added a scaly tail to add something different to the sculpture. I wanted the piece to look dark but beautiful. I chose to do a dark body so the wings and feet stand out and look colorful and alive. I had this piece in a sitting position to give it a more friendly appearance, instead of a dark scary look. I also painted the eyes the same color as the wings so they would pop away from the dark fur of the body and face.

Tree Waterfall. Corrugated Cardboard Sculpture. 2016. For this piece we had to create an abstract piece that tells a story, or that symbolizes something in real life by using cardboard. I chose to do trees that are growing in a waterfall-like effect. I would also say the trees look like some sort of Japanese buildings. I had used a razor to cut out the shapes and hot glue to glue them together. I wanted to add texture to the trees, so I removed the first layer of the cardboard to show the middle, wavy layer. I also built a fence around the piece to symbolize the protection of our society and nature. Finally, I cut out a small pond next to the trees and a small garden of flowers next to them as well.  This piece to me symbolizes a growing society and the beauty of nature.
